To the Editor:
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, one of the party’s most visibly and blatantly neoliberal leaders, is the embodiment of everything that is wrong with today’s Democratic Party.
Voter disengagement among Democrats should be taken as a sign that the party needs to realign itself with its electorate and restore the balance of progressives to neoliberals in its ranks or risk fracturing. The days of automatically re-electing officials of one’s political party need to end, even if it means a temporary loss, for it’s how we got to where we are today.
We need leaders who have the ethical center needed to repair our democracy, social ethics and the basic freedoms we say we cherish. Andrew Cuomo just isn’t that man.
