Bernie Sanders Hints At What A Sanders Administration Cabinet Could Look Like
Posted:

Democratic presidential candidate and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders (I) offered a first glimpse on Sunday of some of the people he might consider for his cabinet in a potential Sanders administration, and a few that he certainly won’t.

“My cabinet would not be dominated by representatives of Wall Street,” Sanders said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I think Wall Street’s played a horrendous role in recent years, in negatively impacting our economy and in making the rich richer. There are a lot of great public servants out there, great economists who for years have been standing up for the middle class and the working families of this country.”

Prompted by host Jake Tapper, Sanders went on to praise Paul Krugman, the New York Times columnist and Nobel Prize-winning economist. Krugman is a vocal opponent of tax cuts for the rich, and he has warned readers for years about the dangers of income inequality. “Krugman does a great job,” Sanders said.

Also doing a great job, Sanders said, is Columbia University economics professor and Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz, whose recent work has focused on the perils of radical free markets, such as those espoused by some in the libertarian wing of the GOP.

Sanders also singled out Robert Reich, the former labor secretary under President Bill Clinton, now a professor at the University of California at Berkeley: “I think [he] is doing a fantastic job.” Reich has long been an influential backer of labor unions, which have come under attack from Republican governors in recent years.

Still, Sanders said, “it’s a little bit too early, I must say, to be appointing a cabinet. Let me get elected first.”

“I applaud the people of Greece for saying ‘no’ to more austerity,” he says.

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders expressed support for Greeks who voted against creditors’ calls for austerity measures in exchange for new loans by widely rejecting such demands on Sunday.

“I applaud the people of Greece for saying ‘no’ to more austerity for the poor, the children, the sick and the elderly,” Sanders (I-Vt.) said in a statement on his website.

The Times’ Condescending Attitude Toward Bernie Sanders

A new profile treats Sanders as an eccentric uncle who is a bit of a blowhard.

On the fourth of July, the New York Times gave its readers a first extended look at the political history of Bernie Sanders in Vermont. The article, by Sarah Lyall, is titled “Bernie Sanders’s Revolutionary Roots Were Nurtured in ’60s Vermont.” This sketch of the young Sanders is free of obvious malice. It would serve its purpose less effectively if it were malicious.

The attitude that Lyall adopts toward Senator Sanders is, instead, mildly and cheerfully disparaging — affectionate, but at the proper distance of condescension; ironically agreeable, as you are allowed to be in dealing with a second cousin or an eccentric uncle who is a bit of a blowhard. Hers is not the first such article to appear on Sanders in the Times. Is it safe to predict that this will remain the paper’s approach to his campaign for as long as he stays in the race?

Sanders endorsed by key New Hampshire activist

By Mark Hensch
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is now counting a major New Hampshire Democrat among his supporters.
Veteran Granite State activist Dudley Dudley announced Friday she is supporting Sanders’ 2016 White House bid, according to CNN.
“He’s very believable,” Dudley said. “A lot of people seem to say things that don’t come to pass.”
“I feel that he is compelling and trustworthy and I’m hoping that he will get the nomination.”
Dudley added that Sanders won her over with his progressive rhetoric on the campaign trail.

Sanders draws more than 2,500 to Iowa stop — tops for this presidential cycle so far

July 3

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — Another day on the presidential campaign trail, another crowd of eye-popping size for Bernie Sanders.

The independent senator from Vermont attracted more than 2,500 people to a convention center here on Friday night as part of his continued quest to lead a “political revolution” and win the Democratic nomination in a field that also includes Hillary Rodham Clinton.

It was by far the largest draw in Iowa, the nation’s first caucus state, by any White House hopeful this cycle — though there were plenty of Sanders fans in the crowd who came across the river from Nebraska.

Mainstream Media Doesn’t Get That Its Attempts to Belittle Bernie Sanders Are Totally Backfiring

Is it actually all that extreme to be a democratic socialist, the brand Sanders has adopted?
