A late night errand turned into a very special hour shared with my now eighteen year old daughter. Tavis Smiley’s tribute to Prince came on our local NPR affiliate as we were done with what was supposed to be a quick errand. We stayed in our car an extra forty minutes to finish listening to the show, knowing we could probably listen online.

This is probably the best interview Prince gave anyone. His intelligence, intellectual curiosity, mischievous humor, a deep appreciation and respect of others’ talent, his love for humanity and his sense of self in the context of his own Blackness all come shining through, in a well-rounded, thoughtful tribute.
